Clarity

I’m in a cabin, up north. It is so quiet here—my breath is the loudest sound I hear.
    no traffic noise
or Polish neighbors through our shared wall
no music playing in the room next to mine
        no loaded dishwasher, rinsing

I wonder @ how the drain of noise masks my breathing
    day by day
    hour by hour
and I wonder of the still clarity of this moment.

I have been holding my breath a lot this week—I can tell
    Muscles, you can relax
there are no next places to be
or things calling for you to do here
it is just God, me and the evening breeze
and this battery powered lamp making it possible for me to see
as I jot down these reflections.
