I like to walk my neighborhood
Today I took a new route
stepping into the arboretum wood
forest standing timeless, trees tall
tame and yet not
Forward, into the woods
as the path dips lower
the watery rains of evening last
in gook and mud beneath me—
my feet soon swallowed in muck
Chaco sandals up for the plunge
Ah, but this grit
I don’t like this grit
Existing the Forest I find a street puddle
no one is watching so I slip
my sandals off and rinse my feet
ah—seriously refreshing
would not want to walk a mile home like this
Now I stop at a home-hosted library box
taking a peek I find two books
opening to read the first
I am inspired
something activates within
and I feel so wonderfully human again
Yes, I love to walk my neighborhood 🏡
