Safe in God

God is secure. This does not mean that He has walls around Himself like a castle, fortress or impenetrable kingdom-scape. This means, that God knows who He is and He needs no one to affirm this to Him or for Him. God is God. And from His secureness, and because He is secure—He is able to provide and to freely invite any who would receive Him, into this state of being with Him.

Psalm 46: 1, “God, you’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge! You’re a proven help in time of trouble—more than enough and always available whenever I need you.”

As you read further along into Psalm 46, you’ll notice that there are two different rivers being referenced. The first river represents the tottering kingdoms of earth and the second one is a river that flows from God Himself. These streams are streaming simultaneously yet result in very different fruit for the listeners. There is the static of the earthen tottering, the stormy and crashing voices which are very loud and real. And there is the sparkling joy and delight streaming straight into the recipients of God.

During a time of reflection this morning, I couldn’t help but ask myself—from what source am I streaming today? And if I am streaming from God’s channel, how thoroughly am I allowing myself to flow secure from His river?

Thank you, God, that You are secure and thank You for providing a way for me to live securely, too.
